Identified as the catalyst for the Cottage Renaissance of Old Naples, this extensively and meticulously renovated historic residence expertly achieves the oft imitated, but never duplicated balance of fusing the nostalgia of vintage architecture with modern relevant design. When the property was purchased, it was a combination of three rental cottages which were barely standing. The challenge was to keep the general footprint to maintain the historicity of the property, yet merge the three tiny cottages into one home. The brilliance emerged as architect, Steven Jallad, collaborated with Kristen to create the Iconic outdoor living space complete with covered seating surrounding a charming fireplace beside the open pool. This design has now become the pattern seen about town in new construction homes in Old Naples.
Thoughtful interior finishes included new uses of marble in the kitchen, antique weathered oak flooring, 16 foot vaulted sky-lit ceilings and accents of reclaimed cypress. The picturesque outdoor living space was flanked by a spacious guest cottage the designer was determined to save during the renovation. Separate ground level guest cottages are no longer allowed to be built in Naples, thus saving this grandfathered space was imperative to the whole of the creation. Featuring a full kitchen, dining and family rooms and an en-suite master, the ultimate privacy was afforded both owners and guests.
The real fun began as Kristen collected eclectic pieces to furnish this masterpiece. Combining vintage bamboo sofas purchased from the Katharine Graham estate with twin mirrored coffee tables, a barn door and a punch of contemporary art, the designer was in her element. Above the outdoor fireplace posed a floating mermaid and the outdoor living hosted vintage teak tables and Ficks Reed chairs. Atop the cupola a flying mermaid beckons one to enter this welcoming beach house.
With a location in the heart of the sophisticated 5th Avenue District and just a short stroll from the acclaimed crystalline beaches of the Gulf of Mexico, it becomes immediately apparent that this property presents so much more than a luxury home, it is the very embodiment of the highly coveted Old Naples lifestyle.
